Members of the Board - Mladinska knjiga Založba

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Books are about people. The characters. The authors. The readers. And then there are those who work in the background, like the publishers. Some time ago I had the pleasure of photographing the three members of the board of Mladinska knjiga Založba, the largest publishing house in Slovenia with more than 60 years of tradition.

The company commissioned my team and me for a series of portraits and group photos for their annual report and website. I enjoyed the photoshoot and am happy with the results, thanks to a great client and, of course, my excellent team of 2 make-up artists and 2 assistants.

Easy2Clean by Helios

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

One of the projects I did during my recent short visit to Slovenia was an advertising campaign for Helios, one of the largest Slovenian manufacturers of wall paints and lacquers. The campaign for Spectra Easy2Clean wall colours was created by Publicis. As you probably guessed from its name, Spectra renders the walls really easy to clean and any smudges or dirt can simply be wiped off. Hence the slogan:”Easily clean wall surfaces.” The photos were used for print ads as well as outdoor billboards.

The Neverending Circus

Friday, May 13th, 2011

The Neverending Circus is a photo-essay on circus life, shot in april at the London-based circus Zippos. It’s also my final project of the first semester at college. Curious about Zippos Circus? It’s one of the UKs largest and most popular travelling circuses and has been touring the country for the past 25 years. It’s owned by Zippo the Clown himself, Martin Burton. At this point a big “thank you” to the circus management is in order, for letting me enter their special world through the back door.

Circuses are about joy and I have to say I enjoyed every minute I spent at Zippos with the camera in my hand! The energy of all the performers and artists there is truly uplifting. They’re a group of people living a unique lifestyle and you can tell they find fulfilment in it.

That is not to say their life is easy, by any means. Two shows virtually every day, with some acts demanding extreme focus and effort and they don’t just pull it off, they manage to really wow the crowd. Day after day. I have to admire that. My goal was to capture the charm of the circus show, its athmosphere and energy. There’s something magical and mysterious in the air there. I was delighted to see how excited they were in the circus when they saw the photos.

The Royal Wedding Portraits

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

It’s been a bit long since my last post and I believe some explaining is in order. Together with a mumbled apology, of course. I’ve returned home to Slovenia for two weeks at the end of March, where I’ve been keeping myself busy with a couple of great projects. One of them a 4-day fantastic photoshoot of an amazing villa and hotel in Croatia! Then there’s a new advertising campaign that will soon run in Slovenia. And after coming back to London I’ve sunk my teeth into a big college project about on the circus life. It’s a truly amazing world, I can tell you that! All in all, I’ve got a lot of new material and can’t wait to show it to you!

To kick things off, here’s a documentary series of portraits I’ve made on the day of Kate and Prince William’s wedding in London. A week ago I’ve attended the World Photography Festival that also took place in London. I’ve been to most classes, workshops and portfolio reviews, where I got some great advice and comments on my work. A truly inspirational experience!

Among others, I’ve been to a portrait workshop led by the renowned photographer David Graham. Our task was to make some portraits in London. Since it was also the day of the Royal Wedding, I’ve hit the streets and tried to isolate the people from all the commotion that accompanied the Wedding. I’m very pleased with the photos - so was David Graham, which is a great confirmation of my work.

What do you think? I’d love to hear your comments!
